Trust reveals plans for stalled twin Jersey City towers

A property trust has released updated renderings of a long-delayed project in Jersey City’s Journal Square neighborhood.

Multi-Employer Property Trust, associated with Washington, D.C.-based real estate firm Landon Butler, is developing the site at City Center, also known as One Journal Square. The original design by architectural firm Humphreys & Partners depicted twin 60-story buildings connected by a skybridge.

New renderings that YIMBY picked up, however, are more detailed and no longer show a walkway between the buildings.

Another developer was supposed to break ground on the development in 2007. But construction on the site was frozen by the economic downturn. The planned towers would house 1,500 residential units and 150,000 square feet of ground-floor retail, according to previous reports.

Jersey City itself is already evolving into a hot spot for New York City commuters, and the city offers incentives for new developers looking to build in transportation hubs like Journal Square and Bergen-Lafayette, as The Real Deal previously reported. [YIMBY] — Angela Hunt
