Columbia’s medical center in Washington Heights is relocating its Barnes & Noble college bookstore location a few blocks uptown, taking the space previously home to Community Board 12.

The Columbia University Medical Center is closing its current bookstore on the southeastern end of the school’s campus and moving it a few blocks uptown to  711 West 168th Street near 169th Street. That address doesn’t match any particular building. A 17-story building at 1 Haven Avenue encompasses the lot, according to public records.

The structure currently houses the Hammer Health Science Center’s classrooms and a university-library, according to the most recent map of the center’s campus.

The bookstore was previously located inside the center’s biomedical research building at 3954 Broadway between 166th and 167th streets. Although the new store will primarily serve students, it will also be open to locals.

The community board traded its digs there for office space at the Alianza Dominicana Triangle building at 530 West 166th Street, DNAinfo reported.

Columbia is currently constructing a FXFOWLE-designed 14-story tower nearby at 104 Haven Avenue on the corner of 171st Street, according to previous reports. The new building, which broke ground in September of last year, would house Columbia’s Medical and Graduate Education Building, slated to open in 2016. [DNAinfo] — Angela Hunt
