Google officially grabbed 180,000 square feet of office space at a former Nabisco factory in Chelsea owned by Vornado Realty Trust and the Related Companies – about half the size for which the tech giant was negotiating.

The tenant still plans to take 360,000 square feet, once the federal government’s lease in the 540,000-square-foot property at 85 10th Avenue expires next year, the Wall Street Journal reported. Talks began last year, as previously reported. Google already occupies another former Nabisco factory – in Bakery Square in Pittsburgh.

Vornado’s David Greenbaum, who announced the deal on an earnings call today, said the trust owns a 50 percent stake of the building near West 15th Street with Related. [WSJ]Mark Maurer
