After multiple delays, Two Trees Management is breaking ground on the first building at the Domino Sugar Factory site in Williamsburg today.

The developer is starting construction on a $200 million, 16-story building on the east side of Kent Avenue, according to Crain’s. The SHoP Architects-designed building will include 500 rental units, of which 105 affordable, according to the website. The building is scheduled to be completed in 2017.

“The Domino site has been stalled for years, so we are very proud to break ground here and quickly bring on line 105 affordable homes for the community,” Two Trees’ Jed Walentas told the website. “As with all of our projects, Two Trees is committed to Williamsburg for the long haul, and we’d like to thank the many local residents and stakeholders for their input and ideas since we acquired the property two years ago.”

Walentas and the de Blasio administration clashed about the amount of affordable units that would be included in the development. Those clashes, however, now seem to be behind the developer.

“We have a good relationship with City Hall and the mayor’s office,” Walentas told the website, “and like any relationship, sometimes you do things you wish you hadn’t, but you move on and go forward.” [Crain’s] — Claire Moses
