It’s gone from bad to worse for the Skelos clan: Former Majority Leader Dean Skelos and his hot-tempered son Adam are now facing additional charges for allegedly shaking down a Long Island company.

Citing an expanded indictment against the former state senator and his son, The New York Times revealed on Wednesday that Adam Skelos, 32, allegedly threatened to “smash in” his boss’ head and hurled insults at him at the malpractice insurance company where he worked.

All because the supervisor confronted him for not showing up for work in his very first week on the job.

The new indictment also added two new charges that claim that the father and son solicited bribes from a company on Long Island in return for favorable legislation, according to the newspaper. The former majority leader and his son were arrested in May on charges of extortion, fraud and bribe solicitation.

According to the first complaint, the younger Skelos allegedly collected hundreds of thousands of dollars from Leonard Litwin’s Glenwood Management as well as an environmental technology company in exchange for help from the senator’s office.

U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara launched an investigation into Skelos after Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver was arrested in January, for an alleged $4 million bribery scheme tied to a real estate law firm. Litwin turned out to be “developer 1″ in the Silver case.

The big-spending political donor in last year’s election cycle, Litwin’s campaign contributions following the Silver arrest dipped to just 6 percent of donations in prior years. [NYT]Claire Moses
