In London, a cupboard beneath a staircase asks $750 a month

Naturally, the listing has drawn numerous Harry Potter comparisons on Twitter

A rental in London is drawing unpleasant Harry Potter comparisons – that’s because it is literally a bed under the stairs. And while Harry didn’t pay rent to live with the Dursleys, it costs approximately $750 a month to live under these stairs.

One house hunter tweeted this after being shown the “apartment:”

I have literally just been shown a bed under the stairs for £500 a month. F you London! #nothanks #privetdrive!? pic.twitter.com/Rj73NUwz9S

Privet Drive is of course the address of Harry Potter’s unsavory Muggle family, who made him live under a flight of stairs.

This real staircase is located in the Clapham neighborhood of London. The “room” is just big enough for a small mattress, some clothes to be hung on the wall and a few possessions to be stored behind the pillow, according to the New York Post.

The apartment is listed on London2Let.com and acknowledges the small size, but doesn’t reveal that it is in fact a literal closet. It also looks like the photos have been removed.

“We are looking for a friendly, open-minded and outgoing person to join our houseshare in a great period house in Clapham,” the listings says.

“I left as quickly as I could and said it wasn’t right for me,” Lomax told Mashable. “Annoyed at myself, to be honest, as it’s disgusting [the real estate agent] thought that’d be OK.”[NYP]Christopher Cameron
