Ronald Domb’s Empire Hotel Group sold a Garment District development site for $54.3 million.

Empire filed plans for the site at 993 Sixth Avenue back in 2013, planning to construct an 44,000-square-foot, 122-key hotel. There is a single one-story retail property on the site.

The Department of Buildings rejected the proposal in January 2014, but approved a roughly similar plan in June. Rawlings Architects was the applicant of record.

Last week, though, the DOB placed a stop-work order on the site, which is also known as 100 West 37th Street. The explanation, according to Ed Rawlings, is that the firm’s services weren’t assigned with the deal.

The buyer in the deal is listed as 993 Sixth Realty LLC. The buyer’s attorney, the Law Office of Yeung & Wang, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Ronald Domb could not be immediately reached.

Empire is also seeking to develop a 52,000-square-foot, 130-key hotel with 12 residential units at 295 Fifth Avenue in Nomad. That project was delayed by a lawsuit from a retail tenant at the existing building on the site.
