Stas Development moves forward with St. Boniface condo conversion

Stas Development is moving ahead with its plan to redevelop St. Boniface Catholic Church, converting the 116-year-old property into condominiums.

The project is slated to go before the Chicago Plan Commission later this month, Stas Development’s Michael Skoulsky told Curbed.

The project will feature 17 condos in the existing church at 1358 West Chestnut Street, 24 more in a new building to the east and another building to the north, which will house the local Northwestern Settlement nonprofit group.

The Noble Square church was threatened with demolition until Chicago-based Stas acquired it in 2016 for $2.2 million, according to county records.

Skoulsky told Curbed the new buildings will compliment the Henry Schlacks-designed Romanesque church. Chicago-based Space Architects + Planners is designing the project, which will open in 2020.
