Sonco Real Estate has been approved for a two-story addition to a residential development it is building in Lincoln Square.

The firm will add to the existing three-story building at 2150 West Lawrence Avenue, which had been a manufacturing facility. It plans to build 59 residential units there.

Sonco, run by brothers Jack, Steve and Gary Koral, received permit approval for a mixed-use building, records show.

Sonco acquired the property for $3.5 million in 2016. It landed a $12 million construction loan from Republic Bank in November, records show.

The addition was proposed shortly after, when Sonoco requested a zoning change. The project is in the 47th Ward, which has seen a drop in population as apartment buildings have been converted into single-family homes.

Alderman Ameya Pawar has argued for bringing higher density and more residential housing to the stretch of Lawrence Avenue that includes the project.
