A Lincoln Park mansion is about to hit the market for $12.95 million, is the third-highest asking price for a home in the city.

The 8,000-square-foot house at 1950 North Burling Street is a lot that has zoning that would accommodate a home as big as 17,000 square feet, according to Crain’s.

Records show the home is owned by Conrad and Candace von Peterffy. It is just down the road from the home with the biggest listing right now: a Burling Street estate asking $50 million. The second biggest is a 130-year-old Thompson Mansion in the Gold Coast, which is asking $21.9 million.

The von Peterffy home sits on nearly four full city lots and has elaborate lawns and gardens.

Listing agent Janet Owen of the Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices KoenigRubloff Realty Group plans to list it on Wednesday.

Crain’s said Conrad von Peterffy is owner of Schenker Storen, a Swiss maker of blinds, awnings and shutters.

The von Peterffys bought the land in three pieces, for a combined $5.36 million in 2012, according to Cook County records.

The highest sale price for a single-family house in Chicago is the $14.5 million that billionaire J.B. Pritzker, now the Democratic candidate for governor, and his wife, M.K. Pritzker, paid in 2008 for a 25,000-square-foot Astor Street mansion.

A few miles north in suburban Winnetka, a pair of homes sold this year for $12 million to go along with an earlier $10 million sale.  [Crain’s] — John O’Brien
