Onni Group wants to build a 38-story apartment tower in River North, three years after an alderman rejected a similar plan for the property.

The Canadian developer will present the latest version for a 356-unit residence at 353 West Grand Avenue at a community meeting next week.

In 2015, Onni proposed a 32-story, 330-unit building on the property, but neighbors objected to the plan, saying it would cut into their alley — and their views. Alderman Brendan Reilly (42nd) rejected the proposal, declaring it “dead,” DNAinfo reported at the time.

Now the developer is back with the bigger plan, Reilly said in an email to constituents Friday. The alderman appears to have tempered his tone.

“Since then, the applicant has incorporated community feedback to improve their plans and are now prepared to share their new design with the community for further input,” Reilly said.

The email went on to say Reilly has not given the project his stamp of approval, and the June 18 meeting is just the start of the approval process.

The building would include 284 parking spaces, Reilly said.
