North Shore mansion sells a discount from 17 years ago

A lakefront mansion in Highland Park sold for $4.2 million, about $1 million less than the sellers bought it for 17 years ago. Even so, the 99-year-old home on two acres is part of a rise in the number of pricey home sales in the Chicago area. It is the 67th home to sell for more than $4 million this year, compared to 46 all of last year. Work wraps up on Union Station’s Great Hall

Berglund Construction and architect Goettsch Partners have completed a $22 million restoration of the skylight and decorative walls in Union Station’s Great Hall. The 219-foot-long skylight rises some 115 feet above the floor. The Amtrak-funded project included restoring the original colors to the walls and columns of the 93-year-old hall, adding new lights to emphasize architectural elements and restoring two Henry Hering statues above the entrance into the main station. Lincoln Mall redevelopment plan proposed

Four years after Lincoln Mall closed, officials in south suburban Matteson are considering a plan to redevelop the property with hundreds of homes, a possible space for live theater and a retail portion. The redevelopment, called Market Square Crossing, would feature recreation facilities, pedestrian paths and a mix of residential and commercial uses around a central open area that would be used for community functions, according to the village. The Mutiny closing in Logan Square

Logan Square dive bar The Mutiny is closing after nearly 30 years. Owner Ed Mroz said he’s no longer able to afford to run the business at 2428 North Western Avenue, especially as he’s battled prostate cancer in recent years. Mroz said the 100-year-old building that houses the bar in the popular neighborhood will likely be torn down after he closes. [Block Club]

Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl ready to showcase Elk Grove Village

Officials in suburban Elk Grove Village are gearing up their ad campaign tied to the village’s $300,000 sponsorship of a college football bowl game in the Bahamas. The Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl, which incorporates the village’s marketing tagline, is set for Dec. 21 in Nassau. It will feature Florida International against Toledo. Village officials decided to sponsor the game to highlight the village’s business park. [Daily Herald]

High Street inks 2 firms to nearly 115K sf in industrial space

High Street Realty Company signed one tenant to a new 74,000-square-foot lease and another to a 40,000-square-foot renewal in industrial properties in Buffalo Grove. Medical, dental and veterinary product-maker Midmark is taking the larger space in a building at 1001 Asbury Drive, while One2One Communications inked a renewal at 900 Asbury Drive. [REJournals]
