Baton leaving River North for Uptown

Iconic drag bar the Baton Show Lounge is leaving River North after 50 years, with the owner blaming the move on rising rents. The club at 436 North Clark Street is moving to 4707 North Broadway, the former home of the Uptown Underground burlesque venue. [Block Club]

Farnsworth House to open for winter tours

The Farnsworth House, designed by pioneering architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, will open for a series of winter tours. The National Trust for Historic Preservation will offer 90-minute guided tours of the home in Plano from Jan. 5 to March 23. [Curbed]

Developer throws hat into 26th Ward race

Developer David Herrera has joined the crowded race for 26th Ward alderman, saying development has been stymied by incumbent Roberto Maldonado’s leadership. Real estate seminar for developers irks Pilsen residents

An upcoming real estate seminar titled “Chicago’s Emerging Neighborhoods: The Rise of Pilsen, Uptown, Logan Square and Humboldt Park” has riled Pilsen neighborhood groups who said it was designed to attract developers wanting to gentrify the neighborhoods. The Bisnow event scheduled for Dec. 12 at Mural Park in Pilsen has changed its marketing materials since the outcry to eliminate references to neighborhoods “being targeted” by Chicago’s biggest developers among other information. Bedford Park steel company confirms move to Gary, Indiana

Alliance Steel confirmed it is moving from south suburban Bedford Park to the site of a former a Republic Steel plant in Gary, Indiana. Gary officials voted Tuesday to support a $1.2 million package of incentives for the company to make the move. [Post-Tribune]
