A group led by home builder K. Hovnanian wants to redevelop the former Tinley Park Mental Health Center property into nearly 800 new homes, townhomes and apartments, making it one of the largest residential complexes in the area.

The developers are seeking nearly $69 million in incentives for their planned redevelopment of the 280-acre property at 183rd Street and Harlem Avenue, according to the Daily Southtown.

Joining New Jersey-based K. Hovnanian in the project are Columbus, Ohio-based M/I Homes, commercial property owner Rick Heidner and former Tinley Park village official David Dorgan.

Their proposal calls for 435 single-family homes restricted to buyers 55 and older, a 200-unit luxury senior apartment building, 60 single-family homes and 100 townhomes. It also would include 80 acres of parks and open space.

The group is seeking tax increment financing assistance and other incentives to demolish buildings left on the property and other environmental cleanup of the site.

The property sits across the busy intersection where Harp Group bought the Tinley Park Holiday Inn and assumed control of the attached Tinley Park convention center.
