Chicago is flush with megaprojects and here comes one more

A group of developers will unveil plans for another megadevelopment in Chicago, a multibillion-dollar project that would rise over railroad tracks west of Soldier Field in the South Loop.

Wisconsin developer Bob Dunn is leading the effort, which also includes Chicago developer Gerald Fogelson, who bought the air rights over the tracks more than 20 years ago, according to Crain’s.

The plan calls for a mix of residential, office and retail space over 34 acres from McFetridge Drive south to 20th Street.

Fogelson had long sought to develop over the property himself, but now is partnering with Dunn in a new venture named Landmark Development, according to Crain’s. Dunn is president of Milwaukee-based Hammes, which was behind the new Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Ford Field in Detroit and the Minnesota Vikings’ new stadium.

Alderman Pat Dowell (3rd), whose ward includes the project site, said she’s holding a meeting next month to formally present the plans to the public.

The site sits a few blocks to the east of Related Midwest’s planned The 78 megadevelopment in the South Loop, which already is experiencing a boom in apartment and condo construction.
