It isn’t every day that homebuyers can purchase an entire village, especially one in tony Highland Park. But their chance has come.
The sprawling, postmodern mansion known as “Suburban Village” is back on the market, this time with a significant price cut. Designed by famed architect Stanley Tigerman, the home, made of connecting, geometric structures, is now listed at $1.2 million, according to Curbed.
Built in 1990, the 5,000-square-foot home is made of separate “buildings” that have mismatched roofs but are uniformly constructed with a limestone base and zinc roof, Curbed. It sits on a 1.6-acre lot at 1940 Park Avenue, which has a rose garden, outdoor pool and patio.
Tigerman’s wife and business partner, Margaret McCurry, helped with the interior, which includes a wood-paneled, circular library. McCurry designed furniture and rugs to fit the home’s irregular shape.
The award-winning home was listed in 2015 at $2.2 million but could not find a buyer. It was delisted in 2017 at $1.7 million and returned to the market in March at $1.2 million. It has had just one owner, the Pochis family.
The Suburban Village isn’t the only expensive or notable North Shore home to have a hard time finding a buyer. A glut of inventory, and changing tastes in homebuyers, has left some luxury listings to languish on the market. Even Michael Jordan’s massive Highland Park estate hasn’t been spared.
