Highest residential space in the Loop trades hands
A condo that holds the distinction of being the highest residential space in the Loop sold after 2.5 years on the market. The 72nd-floor unit at the top of the Legacy at Millennium Park, 60 East Monroe Street, sold for $3.5 million – well below its initial $6 million asking price from October 2016. The seller was George McLaughlin, who bought the condo as raw space for $3 million in 2012 with his now-deceased wife, Carolyn. The buyers were not yet identified in public records. Another condo project launches in the West Loop
JK Equities launched sales for its 42-unit condo building in the West Loop. The New York-based firm plans to start construction on the seven-story building at 1400 West Monroe Street later this year. ON Collaborative by Coldwell Banker is handling sales and marketing of the building. [REJournals]
Fulton Market’s Nobu Hotel finally sets opening
The Nobu Hotel, backed by investors including actor Robert De Niro, is set to finally open in Fulton Market in October. The 115-key hotel at 854 West Randolph Street has been in the works for more than three years. Construction on the hotel stopped not long after it started, and then M Development in December 2017 sold its stake in the project to RCD Resorts for $20 million. Work resumed last year on the project, which also will include a restaurant from Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, a sushi bar and a rooftop. [Curbed]
Thompson Center, five other Chicago-area buildings make endangered list
Landmarks Illinois’ annual list of the state’s most endangered historic places includes the Thompson Center in the Loop and five other Chicago-area properties. Also making the list are the Washington Park National Bank building in Woodlawn, the Sheffield National Register Historic District in Lincoln Park, the Hill Motor Sales building in Oak Park and the Hoover Estate and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Booth Cottage, both in Glencoe.
