Movie producer sells Gold Coast penthouse at fraction of one-time listing

A veteran Hollywood movie producer finally sold his penthouse in the Gold Coast after years on the market, pocketing less than half its original asking price.

George Furla this week sold the 6,400-square-foot, full-floor condo on the 50th floor of the Fordham, at 25 East Superior Street, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Furla bought the unit as raw space for $3.1 million in 2005 but didn’t move in. After six years of trying to sell it, he built it out and listed it again at $7 million in 2013 but found no buyers, according to the Tribune.

In the ensuing years he rented out the condo and then put it back on the market, asking $8.5 million for it at one point in 2016. After numerous price cuts, it sold for $3.8 million this week, the Tribune said.

According to IMDB.com, Furla has a long list of producer credits, including work on the Mark Wahlberg movies “Lone Survivor” and “2 Guns;” 2013’s “Rambo” starring Sylvester Stallone; and 2013’s “Empire State” starring Dwayne Johnson and Liam Hemsworth.

The listing agent was Compass’ George Furla, a second cousin of the producer. Public records do not yet identify the buyer.
