Two big retail leases will end an eight-year vacancy at a major Schaumburg shopping center.

At Home interior decor store will take 90,000 square feet of space at the Prairie Towne Center, and 24 Hour Fitness will take another 37,000 square feet, according to the Daily Herald.

The building at the corner of Barrington and Schaumburg roads has sat empty since a Lowe’s store closed there in August 2011, after five years in business.

At Home will move out of its current space at the Woodfield Village Green shopping center on the opposite side of the suburb. It will join an existing Kohl’s store at Prairie Towne Center, across the street from a Home Depot and Petsmart.

Officials in Schaumburg are still trying to fill lost commercial space following Barnes & Noble’s move to downsize earlier this year. And in May, village leaders endorsed a plan to turn the vacant former headquarters of Motorola Solutions into a 12-acre park. [Daily Herald] — Alex Nitkin
