Crews began demolishing the Carson’s department store, the last remaining property on the grounds, according to the Daily Southtown. The store closed in March.
Part of the public-private redevelopment plan includes dividing the property into multiple lots, with 600 units of housing, in addition to retail and office components, recreational facilities and a central open area, according to the report.
Chicago real estate brokerage The Lord Companies is marketing the property and construction is estimated to cost $250 million.
