Chicago’s gyms, movie theaters, bowling alleys prepare for severe restrictions

Gov. Prtizker’s order that those businesses statewide limit capacity to 50 people or less is the latest move to contain the spreading coronavirus

Starting tomorrow, Chicago gyms, movie theaters and bowling alleys must limit the number of people they allow to 50, the latest in a series of steps Gov. J.B. Pritkzer imposed across the state to help contain the spreading coronavirus.

Some establishments around Chicago have decided to close down temporarily after the governor announced the measure on Monday, according to Crain’s.

Pritzker has also ordered all of the state’s bars and restaurants to close their dine-in operations through March 30.

So far, Midtown Athletic Club in Bucktown, East Bank Club in River North and Fitness Formula Club — with 11 Chicago-area locations — have decided to shutter, Crain’s reported.

At least one independent movie theater, the Music Box Theatre in Lakeview, planned to close Tuesday, as well as locations under national chains Regal Cinemas and AMC Theatres, the outlet reported.

Pinstripes bowling alley closed all 13 of its locations across the country, including four in the Chicago area.

Similar measures for restaurants, theaters, gyms and other businesses in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and South Florida have also been imposed this week.
