The 5 most expensive residential sales in the city this week were more than twice last week’s total
What a difference one week and one No. 9 Walton condominium sale makes.
On the strength of Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward’s $7.2 million sale of his 19th-floor unit at JDL Development’s Gold Coast tower, the five priciest homes that sold in the city this week more than doubled last week’s total.
The two condos and three single-family homes that left the market totaled $16.7 million. That far exceeded last week’s $6.7 million tally, which represented a low point in a luxury market that has been battered by the coronavirus.
This week’s list included two single-family homes built in the early 1900s and a more recent construction that has a four-floor elevator and 300-bottle wine cellar. In addition to No. 9 Walton, which is in the Near North Side, two homes are in Lincoln Park, one is in Kenwood and another is in Lakeview.

The sale of Heyward’s four-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom unit at No. 9 Walton closed Monday. The condo is 5,230 square feet, pegging the deal at $1,377 a foot. The home includes an enormous closet with custom cabinetry where Heyward housed his multitudinous sneaker collection. There is a media room, a custom designed office, and a laundry room. The terrace includes an overhead heater. Nancy Tassone of Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty had both sides of the deal.

This single-family home was built in 1901 and has five bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. It encompasses 4,800 square feet, pegging the sale at $698 a foot. There is an adjacent oversized lot with gardens, a parking pad/sport court, lawn and bluestone paver patio. There is a large living room and additional sunroom, along with a fireplace. The home has a two-car garage. Compass’ Jeff Lowe and Joy Larkin shared the listing and Lowe also brought the buyer.

Designed by architect Horatio R. Wilson, this three-story brick house was built between in 1910. It has six bedrooms, seven bathrooms and covers 6,320 square feet. That pegs the sale at $384 a foot. The home has been maintained and updated, having undergone three significant renovations under the most recent owner. Recent improvements were designed by architect John Vinci. The home includes six fireplaces. A newly renovated coach house accommodates two cars below a well-appointed one-bedroom apartment. Marie Campbell and Kevin Snow of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Chicago shared the listing. Kim Benjamin of The Lord Companies brought the buyer.

This brick and limestone single-family home was built in 2006. It has six bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms, and includes coffered ceilings, cove moldings and leaded glass windows. The 5,400-square-foot home pegs the price at $370 a foot. It includes a four-floor passenger elevator, attached and heated 2.5-car garage with heated breezeway and mudroom, There is also a 330-bottle temperature-controlled wine cellar. The home has two fireplaces, ground-level patio and large garage roof deck with pergola. Deborah Hess and Christian Moisio of Compass shared the listing. Sue Kenealy of Platinum Partners Realtors brought the buyer.

This five-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom single-family house was built in 2014. The 4.026-square-foot home pencils out to $416 a foot.
