A lakefront mansion in Winnetka sold for $6.5 million, the latest sign that luxury buyers are beating a path to the Chicago toney suburb.
The 6,400-square-foot estate at 151 Sheridan Road was the third-highest price home sale in Winnetka this year, according to Crain’s. As a sign of the increased demand in the area, the home was only on the market for a month.
Two homes in the village have sold for over $8 million this year, including a mansion nearby at 209 Sheridan Road. A buyer scooped up that property in July for $8.2 million. In 2019, no homes sold for over $5 million in Winnetka.
The home at 151 Sheridan was built in 1928, and designed by C. Whitney Stevens, who was known for designing mansions along the North Shore, according to Crain’s. It has six bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms on 1.5 acres of land and 118 feet of Lake Michigan shoreline.
The seller was Susan Remien, according to the report. The Remien family owns the mustard and vinegar company Olds Products Co., along with Fitzpatrick Bros., a maker of kitchen cleaner products.
Peter Cummins of @properties had both sides of the deal.
Chicago-area home sales and prices have been on the upswing since bottoming out in the spring when the coronavirus took hold and much of the state remained under lockdown. In August, 13,360 homes sold across nine counties, a nearly 20-percent year-over-year increase. [Crain’s] — Keith Larsen
