Fulton Market has attracted a rising number of office and residential projects, a development boom that has boosted commuter traffic and could earn it a new Metra station.

The Fulton Market station, if approved, would be a part of Metra’s larger project to build a bridge or flyover near Western Avenue. That would allow trains to pass over other lines, eliminating congestion, according to the report.

Metra and city officials will hold a virtual meeting to discuss the plans on Oct. 12.

Fulton Market already has corporate giants occupying space like McDonald’s and Google, along with other firms that include Havi Group, Kimberly Clark and Tock. Last week, Guinness gulped down a multi-year lease for a taproom at the former railroad terminal at 375 N. Morgan Street.

The location of the proposed Metra station has not been discussed, but would likely be built somewhere around Ashland Avenue, the report noted. Any station built in Fulton Market could take a decade or longer to complete.
