A Winnetka mansion sold for $8 million, marking the town’s priciest sale this year.

The six-bedroom, 8,900-square-foot home, on a 1.34-acre lot on Locust Street, sold before it was listed on the market, Crain’s reported. Owners Paul St. John, a former GitHub executive and actor Meinhard St. John, paid $4 million for the home in April 2019 and spent another $1.4 million a few months later to buy property behind it for a swimming pool.

The sale was topped by a $12 million lakefront home on Sheridan Road that changed hands in 2018. While two other homes sold for $9.5 million and $8.2 million last year, they were part of a package in which Chicago executive Justin Ishbia bought three properties for just shy of $24 million to create one large estate.

The Locust Street home includes a game room, private theater, wine closet and indoor basketball court. It has a one- and two-car garage. Five of the six bedrooms are on the second floor. The master bedroom, which includes a walk-in closet and ensuite bathroom, has access to a private terrace. The final bedroom is on the lowest level along with an indoor golf range.

Just north of Winnetka, in Glencoe, former Walgreens executive Alexander Gourlay sold his lakefront mansion for almost $8.7 million after only three days on the market.

Headlands Technologies founder Neil Fitzpatrick listed his Winnetka mansion for sale for $10 million in September. Fitzpatrick and his wife bought the home for $12 million in 2018.
