The son of a former Motorola chairman is listing his Winnetka home for $6.95 million, making it the pricest listing in one of Chicago’s most affluent suburbs.

The 9,700-square-foot home was built in the 1920s and has seven bedrooms. The seller is William Galvin, a Winnetka native and the 35-year-old son of former Motorola chairman and CEO Christopher Galvin.

William and his wife, Steffi Galvin, purchased the property for $4.9 million in 2017. They spent about $2.1 million renovating the house with Galvin’s mother, interior designer Cindy Bardes Galvin. It’s on two acres and is near his parents’ home.

Glo Rolighed of @properties is the listing agent for the property.

“It was a very formal old house built in the 1920s,” Galvin, who is also the founder of the public equities investing company Aldabra Partners, told Mansion Global. “We had to dress parts of it down in some ways to make it more warm, friendly and livable.”

Amenities include a great room with original custom wood paneling, and a glass conservatory overlooking a walled garden, a dining room with silver-leaf and hand-painted with flora and fauna by local artist David A. Ryan.

There is also an elevator, several fireplaces and a gym with views of a pond, an in-ground pool, a four-car heated garage and professionally landscaped gardens with fountains.

“We haven’t seen this much activity on the North Shore since before the market collapse of ‘08,” said Rolighed.

Motorola, the Chicago-based telecommunications giant, was founded by Galvin’s great-grandfather, Paul Galvin, in 1928.

Galvin’s parents still own their Winnetka property, but spend most of their time in Florida. Galvin and his wife moved to her hometown Charleston to be near her parents.
