A staffing and recruiting company is doubling its Chicago office space as it expands into financial consulting, making a bet on a post-pandemic, return-to-office future.

Connect Search, which focuses on finance, accounting and IT companies, will lease 15,000 feet at 311 S. Wacker Drive, moving from 222 S. Riverside Plaza, the Chicago Business Journal reported. The firm has offices in Itasca, Illinois, and in Madison and Milwaukee in Wisconsin and expects to move on April 1. Cushman & Wakefield brokered the lease.

Its new home will be in a 65-story, 961-foot tall tower that was completed in 1990. Located within the Loop, it’s about a block away from Chicago’s Union Station and the Old Post Office building, which was turned into offices 2019.

Chicago’s office market has been slow to recover from pandemic vacancies. Fulton Market was the city’s only neighborhood where Class A office availability dropped last year, to 23.1 percent, as the rest of the downtown office market suffered from the pandemic

As more workers clock into physical offices and the pandemic wanes, foot traffic in the Loop is getting busier. Yet the number of workers there stands at just 34 percent of 2019, according to the Chicago Loop Alliance.
