A logistics company has broken ground on a $20 million project in Elgin, where it will set up headquarters amid a trucking hub.
Maybach International Group began construction on the 47,000-square-foot warehouse–and-office project on Madeline Lane, the Elgin Courier-News reported. The project will also include almost 15,000 square feet of office space.
Elgin is part of the booming I-90/Northwest submarket where the industrial vacancy rate has been under 5 percent.
In nearby Elk Grove, a developer recently bought the Avalon Banquet Hall with plans to demolish the structure and build a new 81,400-square-foot light industrial warehouse.
Maybach’s new headquarters will accommodate about 60 employees and up to 500 truck drivers. The space has 360-degree elevated views of the warehouse floor, 24-foot clear heights and 206 trailer parking spaces.
“We are extremely excited for our new building and feel it will set us apart in a very tight labor market,” Maybach’s president and founder Bojan Delibasic told the outlet.
Maybach hired NAI Hiffman to find a new headquarter space in the Chicago area. Kelly Disser, executive vice president for industrial services at NAI Hiffman, said the Elgin property’s proximity to the interstate, as well as the city’s zoning and permitting process, were big draws for the company.
Elgin officials will allow Maybach to have on-site trucks and a repair shop, something many towns wouldn’t permit.
