A penthouse on Lake Shore Drive, formerly owned by Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan, quietly sold for just shy of $7 million in May.

A legal entity headed by Mike Jones paid $6.82 million for the three-unit assemblage, totalling 8,000 square feet, in the 40-story condominium tower at 1100 North Lake Shore Drive, marking the third priciest home sale in the Chicago area this year, Crain’s reported

Julie Busby was one of two Compass agents to represent the sellers, Jennifer McNeil Dhadwal and Amit Dhadwal. Amit is an executive at PayPal, and Jennifer is an executive at infrastructure consulting firm AECOM.

The sale shows that there’s still a healthy demand for high-end homes within the city limits, despite less foot-traffic throughout the downtown area compared to pre-pandemic days. The six highest-priced home sales in the Chicago area this year have all been in the city, as well as eight of the top 10.

The only transactions to top the one at 1100 North Lake Shore was Ken Griffin’s  five-bedroom, 8,000-square-foot Park Tower condo unit that sold for $11.2 million in January, followed by a Lincoln Park mansion that was purchased for $10.6 million in May.

Michael Jordan bought the Lake Shore Drive condo during the Bulls’ championship run in the 1990s, and his ex-wife Juanita Vanoy Jordan eventually sold it for $3.2 million in 2014. After they divorced in 2006, Michael kept their Highland Park mansion and Juanita held onto the condo, the outlet said.

The condo has 12 rooms spanning the building’s top two floors and a 1,000-square-foot rooftop deck. Amenities at the site include a fitness center, clubroom, catering kitchen and a sun deck with a grilling area.
