UrbanStreet Group’s transformation of the former Motorola campus in Schaumburg is taking shape.
A grocer and several restaurants have committed to the District at Veridian, a 30-acre development that’s slated for more than a million square feet of retail, restaurants, office space and 574 residences, the Daily Herald reported.
The project, situated at the southwest corner of Algonquin and Meacham roads, is at the east end of the 225-acre Veridian development. Construction is expected to start this year.
The District at Veridian’s first restaurants will be located on the ground floor of a 280-unit apartment building, which is expected to be completed in early 2026. The grocer has yet to be named, but it will have its own building.
“Our goal next summer is to start infrastructure work and then to be going vertical in the late fall,” UrbanStreet managing partner Bob Burk told the outlet.
If demand is strong enough, Burk hopes to start construction of a second building before the inauguration of the first.
Discussions are underway with potential entertainment venues, enhancing its allure alongside Schaumburg’s 90 North Park and an upcoming entertainment district anchored by Andretti Indoor Karting & Games.
“The goal is to create an environment that attracts people from surrounding areas,” Burk said.
Plans also include a pedestrian bridge spanning Meacham Road.
The firm has held the last remaining Motorola building for six or seven years, with the intention of adaptive reuse, Burk said. The firm plans to finalize its future use by the third quarter.
Village officials greenlit UrbanStreet’s mixed-use proposal last spring.
The Veridian development already has establishments like Topgolf and the Boler Company’s global headquarters, along with residential projects like the Northgate at Veridian townhouses and the Element at Veridian apartments.
