An episode of the upcoming season of hit FX TV show The Bear was filmed at a luxury Gold Coast listing – the latest in a whole host of shows to choose the mansion for filming.
The 9,700-square-foot Beaux-Arts style townhouse, at 1521 North State Parkway, has also been featured on Empire, Chicago P.D., Chicago Fire and What Women Want.
The six-bed, eight-bath home is listed for $7.7 million – or $794 per square foot – with Carrie McCormick of @properties Christie’s International Real Estate representing the seller.
The owner, a Chicago dentist named Enrique Hernandez, first listed the home back in 2018 for $10.3 million – making it one of the city’s priciest residential listings at that time.
After purchasing the home in 2012, Hernandez worked with Hewitt Horn Inc., a local contractor, to renovate the home, according to McCormick and information from property records.
The recent filming of The Bear episode has already concluded, but viewers can look forward to seeing it in the show’s third season, which will be released later this month.
When asked why producers chose his home for the filming, Hernandez attributed it to the “charm of the house” and the rooftop garden that was inspired by the gardens on top of the Rockefeller Center in New York City.
“That’s why this is the No. 1 house in the Gold Coast for the film industry,” he said.
The listing has seen multiple price reductions in its six years on the market. It is also listed for rent at $30,000 per month.
Hernandez “wants to sell, but he also knows the value of the house and everything he put into it, because he did the renovation,” McCormick said. “There was a lot of heart and soul and money put into this home.”
