Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard allegedly owes $3,350 in back rent, has changed locks

A residential landlord in Dolton had to ask a judge for extra help in serving the town’s own mayor with eviction papers.

Landlord Genetta Hull requested a special process server in her eviction case against Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard and her co-tenant, Thornton Township employee Kamal Woods, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Henyard and Woods allegedly owe over $3,350 in unpaid rent and late fees at 14600 Harvard Street and have been “elusive,” Hull said.

She found the locks had been changed on her last visit, preventing her from conducting inspections and repairs, including urgent furnace maintenance, Hull told Cook County Circuit Court Judge Carrie Hamilton.

The challenges associated with serving the eviction notice have only added to Hull’s complications. Cook County Sheriff’s Police officers have attempted to serve Henyard and Woods at their residence and at Dolton Village Hall without success.

Hull asked the judge, “Do you know who these people are?” and Hamilton responded that she did not.

Attorney Beau Brindley previously argued on Henyard’s behalf that the eviction case “is not brought in good faith” and that “no proof of missed payment can be produced.”

Henyard and Woods have been renting the property on a month-to-month basis since their lease expired in May 2023, court filings indicate. Hull cites nonpayment and refusal to allow property inspections as grounds for terminating the lease.

Henyard’s situation is further complicated by a federal investigation. She also works for Thornton Township as the supervisor of a youth assistance program. A federal subpoena sought records related to grant money received for that program.

Dolton trustees have complained that Henyard has changed the locks to the village hall twice recently and has been denying them access to the building.
