Monoceros is expanding its senior living footprint with the development of a significant addition to Plum Creek Supportive Living in Rolling Meadows.
The Lake Zurich-based developer secured rezoning to construct a 53,000-square-foot addition on a vacant lot adjacent to 2801 Algonquin Road, the Daily Herald reported.
The four-story, 52-unit expansion will increase Plum Creek’s capacity to 150 apartments, responding to strong demand and a “pronounced need” for more supportive living accommodations, Plum Creek representatives told the city council.
Monoceros, headed by president and founder Julie Piszczek, acquired the plot from Niles First RE LLC, owned by Paul Khanna of Oak Brook. A small building on the site was demolished nearly 10 years ago. A previous proposal for an adult day care facility was withdrawn in 2012.
The addition will rise 37 feet — higher than the city’s usual 30-foot cap but consistent with neighboring properties.
Monoceros will also add a fire lane along the west and south perimeter, a stormwater pond and updated landscaping and sidewalks. The council also required Monoceros to replace Plum Creek’s pole sign with a monument sign to meet updated zoning codes.

The suburb enacted a moratorium on development applications in the city’s Kirchoff Road corridor district in September, while it assesses the impact of rapid growth on its infrastructure and resources. The year-long freeze applies to new zoning requests, though current projects and those in process, remain unaffected.
Meanwhile, Rialto Capital has listed a 910,000-square-foot office complex, Continental Towers at 1701 Golf Road, amid financial difficulties by the property owners, Rubenstein Partners and Glenstar. With occupancy at 59 percent and a low-interest assumable loan on offer, Rialto is hoping to find a buyer and avoid foreclosing.
