Former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews has parted ways with his penthouse in Lincoln Park.

Toews sold the four-bedroom unit to an undisclosed buyer for $4.5 million, down from the $4.7 million he listed it for in October but a big profit from his purchase five years ago, the Chicago Tribune reported. The sale price comes to $1,020 per square foot.

Baird & Warner’s Millie Rosenbloom had the listing, at 2035 North Orleans Street.

Toews bought the 4,400-square-foot penthouse and three parking spaces in 2019 for $3.55 million, or about $806 per square foot.

The unit includes a 50-foot great room with floor-to-ceiling windows, a double-height gallery with 22-foot ceilings and a rooftop deck.

The penthouse is one of only two units on the top floor of a 100-year-old converted parking garage. The building was redeveloped in 2017 and 2018 by developer Todd Buffington, who kept the original brick and limestone facade and added five glass and steel floors, constructing 10 condominium units.

The sale follows a turbulent year for Toew’s personal and professional life. The 36-year-old former National Hockey League star has been grappling with the effects of long covid and chronic immune response syndrome, leading him to sit out the 2023-2024 hockey season.

Toews is an unsigned free agent but hasn’t announced his retirement from the NHL. Last month, he shared on Instagram that he had spent five weeks in India undergoing a detox program as part of his ongoing recovery.

The condo sale adds to the list of life changes for the athlete, who was a central figure in the Blackhawks’ three Stanley Cup championships between 2010 and 2015.
