The Marshall Bennett Institute of Real Estate at Roosevelt University, which occupies several high profile buildings in the Loop, named Stephen Buckman as its chair of real estate.
The position is largely academic, but Buckman will be responsible for maintaining the school’s relationship with the broader commercial real estate industry in Chicago, as well as conducting research and serving as an associate professor and student mentor. Buckman earned a PhD in urban geography from Arizona State University and was a Fulbright Scholar. Buckman succeeds Tom Hamilton, who had served in the role since 2014.
Lynn Jerath, founder and president of Chicago-based Citrine Investment Group was named to Forbes Magazine’s 50-over-50 list for her work in the senior living sector. The list identified leaders “reshaping business, policy and society in the second half of life.” Jerath founded Citrine in 2014 and has since expanded its reach from the Midwest to the Mid-Atlantic and Florida.
Citrine specializes in investing in undercapitalized, transitional or distressed senior living assets, such as assisted and independent living communities and memory care facilities. Jerath’s investments are backed by demographic data showing that almost the entire baby boomer generation has reached retirement age. The total number of people over 65 in the U.S. is expected to top 73 million by 2030, up from 56 million in 2020, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Jerath previously worked for Goldman Sachs, The Carlyle Group, and GEM Realty Capital and has led over $10 billion in real estate transactions over the course of her career.
