A New Buffalo home priced at $9 million found a buyer on Tuesday, just five days after it was listed in the Michigan resort town in what could be a record-breaking deal.
The lakefront home is under contract but the sale hasn’t closed yet, and the listing indicates it’s still accepting backup offers. But if it sells for its asking price, it would be the record sale for New Buffalo, beating an off-market deal for $8.5 million in 2023.
At 11781 Marquette Drive, the home has eight bedrooms and seven-and-a-half bathrooms. It sits on a half-acre lot on the Lake Michigan shoreline and has 7,200 square-feet of living space.
The home, built in 2020, has large windows that look out over Lake Michigan. It is part of the Riviera Home Owners Association, a neighborhood group that has shared private beach access.
The house is listed by @properties Christies International Real Estate agent Liz Roch, who did not respond to a request for comment.
The home is owned under a trust associated with Mary Mcnaughton. Mcnaughton bought the land in 2019 for $1.85 million and the house was constructed in 2020.
The potential sale follows other big deals in New Buffalo this fall that have put demand for luxury waterfront homes in the area on vivid display. The town is a popular vacation spot for Chicagoans and a sought-after second home location.
Two homes that both asked nearly $7 million, also on Marquette Drive and also listed by Roch, found buyers after only a few days on the market last month.
One of those homes, at 11561 Marquette Drive, went on the market Oct. 2 and went under contract with a buyer Oct. 5. The other, a home owned by former Illinois Republican House Speaker Lee Daniels, went on the market Oct. 16 asking $7 million and went under contract Oct. 22.
Earlier this year, Malort Maker Tremaine Atkinson found a buyer for his 8,500-square-foot New Buffalo home listed at $6 million. And in the nearby town of Union Pier, DRW Holdings founder and CEO Don Wilson offloaded his lakeshore home for $7 million in March.
The second home market near Chicago has been red-hot this year, with Wisconsin’s Lake Geneva seeing a string of $8 million-plus home sales this fall with its ceiling hitting $20 million, and luxury sales along the North Shore fetching record-breaking sale prices.
