Walton Street Capital exec sets state home sale record with $33M Winnetka deal

Lakefront sale of 609 Sheridan Road comes on the heels of previous all-time-high set in August as North Shore luxury soars to new heights

A Winnetka home sold for a record-breaking $32.5 million in a private, off-market transaction last week.

The sale at 609 Sheridan Road in Winnetka comes near the end of a record-setting year for the highest end of luxury real estate in the North Shore. It’s the most expensive home sale ever recorded in Chicagoland, breaking the previous record of $31.3 million for a Winnetka home in August.

The sale wasn’t recorded in public listing channels, but a Cook County deed recorded Nov. 19 shows the property changed hands for $32.5 million.

The home’s sellers were Jeff and Ashley Quicksilver, according to a 2019 Architectural Digest article. The Quicksilvers, who purchased the previous home in 2013 for $8 million, tore it down and built a new mansion on the 1.6-acre lot in 2017. The Quicksilvers purchased the home from Carry Buck, who is founder of the Winnetka Home Owners Association and the ex-wife of Chicago real estate developer John Buck.

The 16,000-square-foot, five-bedroom house was designed by architecture firm Northworks, with interior design by Kara Mann. The French provincial-inspired home has rows of windows with shutters at the entrance, with dormer windows lining the roof.

The home was bought under a land trust that obscures the buyer’s identity.

Jena Radnay of @properties Christie’s International Real Estate represented both the buyer and the Quicksilvers in the recent transaction. Radnay also brokered the August record-breaker and has been involved in many of the top Winnetka sales this year. The Real Deal contacted Radnay about the most recent sale, and she declined to comment.

It’s far from the largest real estate deal Jeff Quicksilver has closed. As a co-founder of Walton Street Capital, he’s been instrumental for decades in shaping huge commercial real estate and development investments alongside billionaire Neil Bluhm and fellow co-founder Eric Mogentale. Walton Street has helped to develop market-moving properties, such as the high-end office building at 167 North Green Street in the Fulton Market District that was recently refinanced despite a difficult environment for commercial workspace.

Walton Street is having a tough time selling its Magnificent Mile office tower at 401 North Michigan Avenue, however, as the property appears poised to bring a loss compared to its mortgage loan value.

Ashley Quicksilver owns Winnetka women’s fashion boutique Athene.

The Winnetka property was listed for sale in 2014 for $10.5 million through @properties with Radnay. When the parcel was last listed, it was advertised as a potential teardown, but never sold as the Quicksilvers instead built the mansion on the lot today.
