A 151-acre horse farm in far western Kane County, northwest of Aurora, sold for $5.75 million.
The estate at 197 North Schneider Road in Elburn, owned by Wind Point Partners managing director Robert Cummings and Annette Bacola, closed on Monday after more than two years on the market. Crain’s reported that the couple first listed the property in September 2022 for $7.4 million, later trimming just over $1 million from the asking price. The final price pencils out to roughly 78 percent of the original list price.
The sale marks the highest recorded price for a home in Kane County, where few properties have cracked $3 million. The previous top sale was an 11-bedroom St. Charles home that fetched just over $3.7 million in 2024. Even a 45-acre estate in St. Charles traded for $3 million in 2021, according to the publication.
Compass’ PK Johnson and Wes Ingold represented the sellers. Michael LaFido of the Luxe Group brought the buyer, who has not yet been identified in public records.
Built in 1994, the six-bedroom main house is a revival of the Prairie Style, with stacked stone, a low-slung roofline and bands of warm wood against white interiors. Large windows overlook rolling pastureland. The property also includes a guest house, pool and pool house, a six-stall barn, indoor and outdoor riding arenas and a helicopter pad, according to the listing. The home is equipped with geothermal climate control.
Cummings and Bacola bought the 42-acre parcel containing the main house in 2010 for just under $2 million. Records don’t show when they assembled the remaining acreage. They marketed the estate as a single offering or as two parcels — roughly 50 acres for just under $5 million and about 92 acres for $1.76 million — but the buyer opted for the full spread.
