Chicago’s top construction permits: Week ending May 27, 2026

TRD reports on the Windy City’s top new permits last week

Building permit activity cooled slightly this week compared to some large filings from the week ending May 20. Last week’s total was bolstered by projects like Northwestern Memorial Healthcare’s $40 million interior alteration to the Galter Pavilion, which easily dwarfed this week’s top $21 million permit given to labor union Local IEBW on the Near South Side.

🏆New Building: The largest new building application filed last week was on the Near South Side, where Local IBEW, the property’s owner-occupant, filed plans to build a one-story, four-bay accessory vehicle parking garage at 2722 S. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The general contractor is Wight Construction Services, Inc.
