Movers: Five-person Avison Young industrial team jumps to JLL

McHugh Construction added new executives, and more Chicago real estate news

In a shakeup for Chicago’s industrial sector, a five-person brokerage team made the jump together from Avison Young to JLL.

Adam Haefner, Marty Mikaitis, Zeke Rowan, Nick Fazio and Anne McGrath formerly of Avison Young joined JLL this month and will focus on serving the brokerage’s industrial clients in the O’Hare submarket, according to a press release from JLL. 

Haefner serves as Managing Director; Marty Mikaitis and Zeke Rowan are Executive Vice Presidents, Nick Fazio is a Vice President and Anne McGrath is the team’s Sales Coordinator. Both Haefner and McGrath have over 20 years of experience. 

The five team members bring a combined deal volume that tops $2.5 billion across 50 million square feet of property, the release stated. Past clients of the team members include Prologis, Crow Holdings Industrial and Venture One Real Estate, among others. 

Also in the industrial market, Oak Brook-based Core Industrial Realty brought on Alexander “AJ” Smith as a new broker. A graduate of The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Smith is covering the DuPage County and I-88 submarkets, a press release from Core Industrial stated. 

Rosemont-based Lee & Associates, a full service commercial real estate brokerage, announced two new promotions last month. 

Tony Russo was promoted from senior vice president to executive vice president. Russo, who has over 25 years of experience, joined Lee & Associates in 2020 and currently represents landlords, tenants, buyers, and sellers in office, medical and flex property transactions, according to a press release. 

Lee & Associates broker Matthew Androwich earned his second promotion in six months when he was promoted from senior associate to vice president, the firm announced. Androwich represents both tenants and landlords in the Fox Valley, I-88 Corridor and the North and Central DuPage industrial submarkets.

Chicago-based contractor McHugh Construction added three new hires into leadership positions in May. Eric Engstrom serves as a project executive, Grant Peoples is the new director of risk management and Amit Patel is a project manager.

Engstrom joins McHugh from Sterling Bay and now leads McHugh’s commercial developments, a release from McHugh stated. Engstrom has 20 years of experience, six of which were at Sterling Bay and 14 of which were at LendLease. 

He has overseen notable developments such as Sterling Bay’s 553,000-square-foot office building at 333 North Green Street and LendLeases’s 151 North Franklin Street and River Point Towers. 

Grant Peoples previously served as engineering and construction corporate counsel for Sargent & Lundy, as well as risk counsel for The Walsh Group. 

Patel joined McHugh from Blackwood Group and Chicago Commercial Construction where he was also a project manager. Patel’s notable projects include a 25-unit apartment building known as the Hamlin Avenue Apartments and the renovation of the 500-unit Albany Gaines Apartments.

Commercial broker Jordan Multak was promoted from Senior Director to Partner at Chicago brokerage Greenstone Partners after several years at the company, according to a press release. Multak specializes in representing clients in the multifamily and mixed-use sector and previously worked for Essex Realty Partners for eight years.
