A mansion in Winnetka designed by Mayo & Mayo sold for $7.8 million, the highest price in the suburb so far this year.
The home itself spans 13,171 square feet, has six bedrooms, and was built in 1926, according to the Chicago Tribune. The sellers, Greta and Joseph Cacciatore, bought the home at 140 Sheridan Road for $3.05 million in 2023 in a foreclosure auction, and thoroughly renovated it over the years.
The mansion stands on 1.04 acres of property and features custom cabinetry, Hope’s Windows and a lower level with a theater room and a gym. The buyers were not identified in public records, according to the outlet. In the 2024 tax year, the mansion had a $109,904 property tax bill.
The Cacciatores received high praise for their renovation efforts from @properties listing agent Jena Radnay.
“The village of Winnetka should award these sellers a restoration award,” Radnay told Elite Street, commenting on how they’ve maintained the original Mayo & Mayo architectural vision while dramatically improving the home’s amenities.
The Tudor-style was brought by Ernest Mayo, an immigrant from England.
The Cacciatores added a third-floor living space that was formerly an attic, a pool and wood-lined wall niches outlining the windows, according to Crain’s. Greta Cacciatore told the publication last year that she removed a reflecting pond and planted traditional English garden boxwood shrubs around the property.
In early 2025, the home was listed for around $10 million, which subsequently was knocked down to $8.7 million. The final $7.8 million price tag is the third-highest across Chicago this year, and the highest in 2026 so far for Winnetka.
Last year’s home sales were much higher, with multiple Winnetka homes reaching the $30 million range in the winter months, and by this time last year two homes were sold for north of $9.5 million.
