Former Blackhawk Adrian Aucoin Lists Hinsdale Home for $6M

Former Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Adrian Aucoin, who was with the team from 2005-2007, listed his northwest Hinsdale home for $5.7 million.

Aucoin’s 17-year career ended with the Columbus Blue Jackets, and he chose to return to the Chicago area following his retirement at the age of 40. The home at 423 North Bruner Street features seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms, a chef’s kitchen and a heated chlorine pool, according to an early access Redfin listing, first reported by the Chicago Tribune. The three story, 6,459-square-foot home was listed on July 20. The listing price equates to $882 per square foot.

Across the Chicago area, homes are flying off the market as a beleaguered construction pipeline is failing to keep up with buyer demand. For many looking to buy a home in some parts of Chicagoland, the bidding process has become exceptionally competitive, with high asking prices and speedy negotiations. It’s become so fast-paced that a timeline of two days from listing to contract agreement is no longer rare for the area.

Nowhere else is that effect more acutely felt than Hinsdale, which real estate agent Dawn McKenna described to the Wall Street Journal as “kind of like a Norman Rockwell painting.”

The village’s attractions include a walkable downtown, highly rated public schools and historic homes. Homes spent a median of just seven days on the market in May, according to the outlet, who cited multiple listing service data. It’s a relatively short commute to downtown Chicago offices, and it’s more welcoming to newcomers than the northern suburbs of the city that sit next to Lake Michigan, according to the outlet.

With Hinsdale’s sheer amount of homes with a historical or architectural legacy, the village has introduced incentives for prospective buyers to renovate, rather than raze. Aucoin’s home was designed by Michael Abraham, and was built a little under a decade ago in 2017. The Aucoin home is the second-highest Hinsdale price currently on Redfin, with the gold medal going to a $7 million, 10,500-square-foot home at 310 South Park Avenue.
