This ranking breaks down the biggest builders in the City of Broad Shoulders based on the total price tag of the projects they have underway.
For this ranking, The Real Deal compiled all new-building and renovation permits issued by the City of Chicago from March 10, 2022, to March 10, 2023, and ranked them by the reported costs of each project on the permit applications.
The dataset includes the contractor, address, estimated cost and work description for 7,700 individual projects.
Combined, Chicago’s top five contractors booked more than $2 billion during the period analyzed — a big jump from the previous year, when the top five’s total failed to crack even the $1 billion threshold.
