This dataset ranks the most active general contractors in New York City for both new buildings and alterations.
The New Buildings Ranking shows the top 25 firms based on total square footage under construction, while the Alterations Ranking shows the top 40 firms based on the total estimated cost of their current projects.
The source data for these rankings comes from The Real Deal’s analysis of new building and alteration permits issued across the five boroughs between March 1, 2021, and February 15, 2022, by the New York City Department of Buildings. The permits are the latest issued for each project with the general contractor as the applicant.
In addition to the cost and square footage totals, the rankings also include each firm’s project count and contact information. This set also includes the raw data file of the over 64,000 permits examined.
