The source data for this ranking is from The New York City Department of Buildings, and includes all five boroughs. The New Building and Alterations permits analyzed were issued between 06/01/22 and 06/01/23.
For the purpose of the New Building rankings, we tallied the latest permits issued for each project with the permit type initial filings I1s only where the registered architect is listed as the applicant. Alteration permits are the latest issued for each project with the permit type Alterations, Alterations with CO and ALT - CO - new building with existing elements and were counted only where the registered architect is listed as the applicant.
The dataset includes the city’s top 20 most active architects for new buildings (based on total square footage) and for alterations (based on cost estimates), and includes a count of each architect’s projects.
The set includes the raw data for each of the over 28.000 projects the ranking is based on, including the location, estimated cost and square footage.
