Trump Org goes down under, plans to build Australia’s tallest tower

New York firm simultaneously expanding in Middle East

The Trump Organization is going to a land down under. 

The New York-based real estate firm is planning to build its first Trump-branded tower in Australia, Bloomberg reported. The company is looking to construct a 91-story building combining a hotel and luxury apartments at the Surfers Paradise resort in Gold Coast

The development is expected to feature 272 residences as well as a private beach club, shops and restaurants. Altus Property Group Limited is handling construction. When complete, the tower will become the tallest in Australia with an overall price tag of AU$1.5 billion ($1.1 billion). 

It’s been a project in the works for nearly 20 years. In 2007, Altus CEO David Young proposed a Trump building in Australia. Young cold-called Ivanka Trump to initiate discussions, a statement from the company said. The deal for the development was signed earlier this month at President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. 

The Trump Organization has been busy inking international deals as Donald Trump remains in the White House. Most notably, the organization has been active in the Gulf states. 

Last fall, the Trump Organization Trump Organization reached an agreement with Saudi developer Dar Global to build a $1 billion Trump Plaza development in Jeddah, the biggest coastal city in the Gulf nation. It will include the Trump Organization’s second planned tower in Jeddah following the commitment to $533 million Trump Tower in 2024. The new Trump Plaza development in Jeddah is expected to feature offices, luxury apartments and townhouses and rise on a nearly 3.3 million-square-foot piece of land that Dar Global parent company Dar Al Arkan bought with other partners last year in an almost $1.2 billion deal, which set a record for land sales in the city. 

Since the president’s first term, the Trump Organization has signed licensing deals for a number of overseas developments. The firm has licensed its name to Dar Global for various projects such as hotels, golf courses and skyscrapers with offices and residences in Dubai, Oman, Qatar and Riyadh.
