Millennium Homes will build two 20-story residential towers directly across Route 3 from Giants Stadium and what will be the Xanadu retail and entertainment development. One- to three-bedroom units will be between 721 and 1,664 square feet in size, with prices ranging from $300,000 to the mid-$700,000s. The apartments will sit on a five-story parking garage and offer views of Lower Manhattan. This is the first big residential development in the Meadowlands since the Meadowlands Commission adopted a new master plan for conservation and “smart growth” two years ago, according to the New York Times.

Sales are under way at Metro Homes’ 431-unit condominium, the Post reported. Prices start in the high-$200,000s for 500-square-foot studios. The project will eventually contain 30,000 square feet of ground-floor retail, including a Wachovia bank, coffee shop, restaurant and dry cleaners. The LeFrak Organization announced plans last month to expand the mixed-use waterfront community with another 688 rental units, 220 condominium units and a 429-room hotel. Construction began last month for the 325-unit Ellipse, a 460-foot rental tower scheduled for completion in spring 2008. In May, construction began on the Shore Club Condominiums at Newport North Tower, which will have 220 condominium units and rise 28 stories at 580 Washington Boulevard. Also under construction is the 429-room Westin Newport Hotel, scheduled for completion in spring 2008. And work will begin on the Aqua, a 31-story, 363-unit waterfront rental, in 2008. Basketball star Shaquille O’Neal wants to develop a luxury condo project on a site currently occupied by Science High School, which is operated by the local Board of Education. A company owned by O’Neal, 36-54 Rector Place LLC, offered to buy the building and its site for $2.75 million and demolish the building to make way for the 24-story project, GlobeSt.com reported. The City Council was scheduled to vote on whether to accept the offer in late May. Science High School is slated to move into a new building in the Newark Science Park in time for the next school year.
