Fashion mogul Betsey Johnson is ditching her Hamptons house and moving to a trailer park. She plans to paint her new mobile home in Malibu bright yellow.
“I have changed my life completely,” the designer, who is 73, told the Wall Street Journal. “I’m tired of taking care of homes…I’m really happy to have one little dollhouse and that’s it.”
But don’t mistake the designer for trailer trash. Her new home is no van by the river. It’s in Malibu’s pricey Paradise Cove, and it cost her $2 million — quite an expensive “dollhouse.”
Eytan Levin of 4 Malibu Real Estate was the listing agent.
Johnson’s new neighbors also spent top dollar. A property in the Cove recently sold for $5.3 million — quite possibly the most expensive mobile home ever sold.
The queen of bright colors expects some cash to come in soon from her Hamptons home. It is slated to close for $1.5 million after a price chop. It first hit the market last year for $2.2 million. Johnson purchased the 2,900-square-foot house in East Hampton in 1999 for $695,000, according to property records. [WSJ] — Hannah Miet
