The Arts District is one step closer to getting a long overdue Metro extension, which could further boost property values in the area.

The Metro Board of Directors will consider a motion that urges the agency to further research the proposed extension of the Red and Purple lines toward a maintenance yard along the Los Angeles River called Division 20, the Source first reported.

The motion, penned by Mayor Eric Garcetti, L.A. Supervisor Hilda Solis and Council member Mike Bonin, calls on the transit agency to consider necessary accommodations for the extension, such as turnback facility improvements, railcar storage, and potential new stations at 1st, 3rd, and 6th Streets.

The motion comes as real estate investors and developers increasingly target the Arts District for new projects, with more than 20 new buildings currently in the pipeline, according to the Source.

The Arts District Metro extension has been under discussion since 2010, according to Urbanize, when then-Council member Tom LaBonge pursued a study of prospective stations at 1st and 6th Streets. [The Source]Cathaleen Chen
