Real estate runs in the blood for John Kilroy Jr., the son of the late developer John Kilroy. But this time, it’s personal.

The CEO of Kilroy Realty Corp. put his own Malibu estate on the market this week for $10.8 million, or $1,535 a square foot, The Real Deal has learned.

The 7,036-square-foot gated property on Bonsall Drive sits on 7.39 acres that are filled with sycamore and fruit trees, as well as a rose, herb and vegetable garden.

It features five bedrooms, each with their own bathroom, and a stone outdoor kitchen with a climate-controlled wine room. The backyard also features a two-bedroom guest house.

The home was owned by Kilroy Sr. as late as 2003, according to property records. It is unclear when the title transferred over to his son. Records also indicate the home last sold in 1999 for $3 million.

Kilroy Sr., an avid sailor, started in real estate in 1947, tapping into aerospace and defense industries. He founded Kilroy Realty’s predecessor firm in 1952 and expanded it into other office and multi-use commercial properties. Its properties include Sunset Media Center and Columbia Square in Hollywood.

Kilroy Jr. took over the company in 1981.

Brenda Hayward and Bill Chadwick of Compass have the listing.
